The Chinese threat is not new to India. This danger is decades old. Many Indian politicians have also warned India about the Chinese threat. Nearly two decades ago, in May 1998, as the defense minister of the then NDA government, Samajwadi Party leader George Fernandes called China as India’s enemy number one.
In an interview to Karan Thapar, George Fernandes said, “Our countrymen shy away from facing the truth and do not question China’s intentions.” The way China is giving missiles to Pakistan, giving military help to Myanmar’s military regime and trying to encircle India through land and sea, it seems that it is our biggest enemy number 1. “
Many people did not like this statement of George. Many of his fellow ministers opposed his statement. Even at that time, the Congress was in opposition, that too, George’s statement had gone through.
Mulayam Singh criticized the government on China issue
Like George Fernandes, former defense minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has also described China as a bigger enemy for India than Pakistan. In the Lok Sabha after the Doklam dispute in 2017, Mulayam Singh had bluntly said that India’s biggest issue is not Pakistan, but China. He also criticized the former government and said that handing over to Tibet was India’s biggest mistake.
Mulayam has warned India many times about China earlier also. In 2013, Mulayam Singh, who was supporting the UPA government from outside, had alleged that the government is not doing anything even on the infiltration of China.
BJP MP told China India enemy number-1
BJP MP Rakesh Sinha rejected the response from China after scrapping the provisions of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and termed China as ‘India’s enemy number one’. Rakesh Sinha had said that China is an expansionist country, it can never be a good friend of India.
In August 2019, Sinha said in an interview to BBC, “China is also claiming Arunachal, is also claiming Sikkim. If we accept China’s expansionism, many parts of India will have to be handed over. ”
Ram Manohar Lohia had first raised the Chinese issue
It is believed that ever since China occupied Tibet in 1962, it has been a threat to India. This issue was first raised by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. As long as Tibet was an independent country, there was no border dispute between China and India, because at that time the Indian borders only met with Tibet. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia had first warned of this danger to the country.
Since the time of Dr. Lohia, socialists believe that China is a big enemy of India. Because in 1962, China first occupied the land of India, then occupied Tibet. Therefore, China is a threat to Indian borders.
Major clashes between India and China after 1967
The biggest confrontation took place between India and China in the year 1967, on the night of 15/16 June after a clash at Nathu La. In eastern Ladakh, 20 soldiers, including a colonel of the Indian Army, were killed in a violent clash with Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley on Monday night. Due to the biggest military confrontation in more than five decades, there has been an already ongoing deadlock on the border in the region.
